RELEASE OF BALLOONS 12noon.

8.8.88 was a momentous day in Burmese history. It was the day a mass uprising for democracy began. The uprising was brutally put down by Burma’s military – thousands were massacred.

To commemorate the event the Burmese community in London will be holding two protests. The first from 11.30am – 12 noon will be in Parliament Square. Balloons signifying Burma’s struggle for freedom will be released at 12noon.

This will be followed by a protest at the Burmese embassy from 1-2pm. The Burmese Embassy is at 19 Charles St, London, nearest tube Green Park.

“We are calling for the international community to impose sanctions against Burma’s brutal dictatorship,” said John Jackson, Director of the Burma Campaign UK. “The world cannot continue to ignore the suffering of Burma’s people.”
