Zaw Zaw Htun

February 17, 2021 All News

Everyone at Burma Campaign UK is very sad to learn of the death of Zaw Zaw Htun today in Yangon after being ill for some time.

Zaw Zaw Htun joined the Democratic Party for a New Society (DPNS) in 1988 and has been a leading member in a variety of roles for the party. He was also the editor of the Ahlin Yanant Journal, and worked with Burmese trade unions.

Zaw Zaw Htun was a progressive political leader who stressed the importance of unity and cooperation with all ethnic people in the country. He rejected the nationalist politics which dominate the main political party agendas in the country.

Zaw Zaw Htun was generous with his time supporting and encouraging young activists.

Zaw Zaw Htun dedicated his life to working for his vision of an inclusive democratic Burma with equality and human rights for all the people regardless of ethnicity. His death is a great loss.

We send condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
