About the company
Total Energies
Total Energies is a French multinational energy company with a long track record of being associated with human rights violations and environmental destruction. In 2021 it rebranded itself from Total Oil in an attempt to greenwash its role in fossil fuel production.
In Burma, Total Energies manages the Yadana gas project. Since the military coup on 1st February 2021 the military took control of state owned enterprises. It now receives the revenue from gas production.
As under the previous military dictatorship, Total’s lobbying of the French government to oppose sanctions on oil and gas is a factor in the European Union not imposing sanctions on oil and gas and thereby allowing Total to keep funding the military.
