After a landslide majority for the National League for Democracy (NLD) in the 8 November multi-party general elections, 590 individuals are still oppressed due to political activity. 35 political prisoners are serving sentences, 199 are awaiting trial inside prison and 356 are awaiting trial outside prison.
In November, 227 people were arrested and 12 were charged. 5 people were sentenced and 211 people were released. One person was arrested by an ethnic armed organisation and another person released by a different ethnic armed organisation. Two political prisoners are in bad health.
