Reading of the Judgment of the Court in the case The Gambia v. Myanmar

The International Court of Justice (ICJ), principal judicial organ of the UN, delivers its Judgment on the preliminary objections in the case concerning Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (The Gambia v. Myanmar) at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the seat of the Court, on 22 July 2022. Session held under the presidency of Judge Joan E. Donoghue, President of the Court. The Court’s role is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States (its Judgments are final and binding) and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized UN organs and agencies. La Cour internationale de Justice (CIJ), organe judiciaire principal des Nations Unies, rend, le 22 juillet 2022, son arrêt sur les exceptions préliminaires en l’affaire relative à l’Application de la convention pour la prévention et la répression du crime de génocide (Gambie c. Myanmar) au Palais de la Paix, à La Haye, où la Cour a son siège. Séance tenue sous la présidence de Mme Joan E. Donoghue, présidente de la Cour. La mission de la Cour est de régler, conformément au droit international, les différends d’ordre juridique qui lui sont soumis par les Etats (ses arrêts sont sans appel et obligatoires pour les Parties) et de donner des avis consultatifs sur les questions juridiques que lui posent les organes et les institutions de l’ONU autorisés à le faire.
