Newtec is a satellite communications company which is working for Mytel, a mobile phone company in Burma part-owned by the Burmese military.
United Nations investigators documented how the Burmese military slaughtered Rohingya civilians, throwing babies alive into burning homes and raping women to death. They have said doing business with the Burmese military is ‘indefensible’.
When Burma Campaign UK wrote to them telling them we are putting them on our ‘Dirty List’ of companies doing business with the military, they threatened to sue us.
In December 2018, Newtec was placed on the ‘Dirty List’ because they work for the Burmese military.
“Newtec is helping the military in Burma make money, money that can be used to help fund their military campaigns and the human rights violations which they commit,” said Mark Farmaner, Director of Burma Campaign UK. “Newtec works for people accused of genocide, that’s about as far from corporate social responsibility as you can get.”
