Nang Seng New Campaigns Officer Joins Burma Campaign UK

June 17, 2008 All News, News Stories

The Burma Campaign UK is pleased to announce that Nang Seng has joined the Burma Campaign UK as Campaigns Officer.

Nang Seng, an ethnic Kachin woman, has previously worked for Kachin Women’s Action Thailand and Burma Issues on the Thailand Burma Border. She is now a refugee in the United Kingdom, unable to return to Burma because of her political activities. In October last year Nang Seng met with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to discuss the international response to the democracy uprising.

As Campaigns Officer Nang Seng will be responsible for the Parliamentary work of the Burma Campaign UK, meeting with and briefing MPs, and providing support for the All Party Parliamentary Group for Democracy in Burma, which brings together British MPs supporting the struggle for democracy in Burma. She will also be one of the main spokespeople for the Burma Campaign UK.

“I am very pleased to be joining the Burma Campaign UK and have the opportunity to lobby the international community for stronger action”, said Nang Seng. “I also hope to raise more awareness about the human rights situation in Kachin state, which rarely gets reported in international media.”

For more information contact Nang Seng on 020 7324 4718
