BCUK condolences on the loss of Dr. Saw Mra Aung

January 7, 2009 News Stories

The Burma Campaign UK would like to express our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences on the loss of Dr. Saw Mra Aung, Chairman of the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD).

The Death of Dr. Saw Mra Aung is a great loss for the Arakan people and the movement of ethnic nationalities in the struggle for democracy, human rights and freedom in Burma.

Dr. Saw Mara Aung, 92, was elected as a member of parliament representing Myauke Oo township in the 1990 election and went on to become the chairman of the ALD.

We honour Dr. Saw Mra Aung for his strong leadership and his dedication to the struggle for freedom and equality for the Arakan and all the people of Burma against the repressive military dictatorship.

He did not live to see freedom for the Arakan people, but the struggle will continue and his dream will come true.
