As British American Tobacco (BAT) reports pre-tax profits of £2.11 billion the Burma Campaign UK today called on investors to put pressure on the company to close its factory in Burma. BAT are the target of a global campaign over their close links with the dictatorship in Burma.
“Shareholders should remember that part of the profit BAT are reporting comes from its factory in Burma, which is jointly owned with Burma’s military dictatorship” said John Jackson, Director of Burma Campaign UK. “BAT are cosying up to murderers, rapists and torturers. If they are trying to set themselves up as Britain’s most unethical company, this is the way to do it.”
BAT also face a demonstration at their London HQ on March 26th, and at their AGM on April 15th.
