Kachin Human Rights Watch’s new report, based on interviews with 25 human rights defenders and civil society organizations in Kachin and Northern Shan States, finds that they are working under conditions of constant surveillance, restrictions on freedom of movement, risks of arbitrary arrest, digital surveillance, social stigma, and severe psychological stress.
Priority support should include emergency relocation assistance, safe houses, legal assistance,
healthcare, mental health services, digital and physical security training, livelihood assistance,
and protection programs that include family members.
