China Railway Engineering Group/China Eryuan Engineering Group
China Eryuan Engineering Group is a subsidiary of China Railway Engineering Group. It is developing a railway which will go from China through Shan State, central Burma and Rakhine State in conjunction with Myanma Railways, a division of Myanmar’s Ministry of Transport and Communications, which is under the control of the Burmese military. If the project proceeds, it increases the risk of militarisation and conflict along the route, with associated human rights violations, as well as providing financial benefit to the military.
