China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC)/China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL)
China National Offshore Oil Corporation is a Chinese offshore oil and gas company. It is the majority owner of China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL). In Burma, COSL provides services in the Zawtika and Yetagun gas fields. Since the military coup on 1st February 2021 revenue from gas projects goes to the Burmese military.
CNOOC, through its subsidiary CNOOC Myanmar Ltd., holds significant stakes in offshore and onshore blocks, including a 61.25% interest in blocks A4 and C1 in the Andaman Sea and Rakhine State. Additionally, Amnesty International reported in 2024 that CNOOC’s terminal in Huizhou, China, supplied aviation fuel to the Burmese military via intermediaries, enabling airstrikes against civilians.
