MPs will discuss the human rights situation in Burma in a debate in the House of Commons today. The debate, to be held in Westminster Hall debating chamber, was called by John Bercow MP, joint chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Democracy in Burma.
The debate starts at 2.30pm, and ends at 4pm. It is timed to coincide with the 60th birthday of Aung San Suu Kyi.
Dr Ian Pearson, Foreign Office minister with responsibility for Burma, will face questions from MPs about government policy. There is growing pressure on the government to introduce a unilateral investment ban on Burma, and to place Burma on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council.
