Six months after the military launched a scorched-earth campaign to drive the Rohingya population out of Myanmar, efforts to remake the region are well underway, according to Amnesty International’s new report. The scale of the change is matched only by the speed with which it is taking place.
Amnesty concludes that the increasing militarization of the area and the lack of transparency, information and consultation makes it unclear how returning refugees will be able to return safely, benefit from economic development or have access to adequate housing, standard of living and other economic, social and cultural rights.
