The second amnesty of 2017 on May 24 saw the release of 89 political prisoners, leaving 40 still serving prison sentences, 87 people awaiting trial inside prison, and 122 awaiting trial outside prison – a total of 249 individuals oppressed in Burma due to political activities.
This month 24 people were arrested and 13 people were charged. There were 21 sentences and 21 individuals were incarcerated. Three incarcerated political prisoners were reported to be in bad health.
