Message:	Dear Senior General Than Shwe I am joining with citizens from around the world to appeal for the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been under house arrest since May 2003. She has now spent a total of over 12 years under arrest yet she has committed no crime. She has been imprisoned for peacefully calling for democratic reform in Burma. She has the respect and support of people across Burma and throughout the world for her peaceful resistance in the face of oppression. For many years now the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) has said that it is committed to bringing democracy to Burma. However, while Aung San Suu Kyi and so many other political prisoners remain in detention, claims that Burma is moving towards democracy lack all credibility. I urge you to demonstrate Burma's stated commitment to democracy by immediately releasing Aung San Suu Kyi and all of Burma's political prisoners. There can be no progress in Burma while Aung San Suu Kyi is not free. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
