As Burma goes to the polls for a general election, Amnesty International is calling on authorities in Burma to release the many political prisoners in the country, behind bars simply for protesting, for expressing themselves or peacefully disagreeing with the government.
There will be a demonstration outside the Burmese Embassy in London, calling on the authorities to free – among others – student protester Phyoe Phyoe Aung and her fellow education activists, who face up to nine years in jail for organising rallies calling for a democratic education system earlier this year.
